Eight Guyanese crew members are in custody in Barbados after police found marijuana and cocaine on board a vessel in which they had arrived in the port of Bridgetown from Guyana late Tuesday night.
The Royal Barbados Police Force stated that in a joint operation, a search was carried out on the vessel and 107 packages of cannabis weighing 101.02kgs, 20.6kgs of cocaine and one Uzi sub-machine gun and ammunition were found and seized.
The operation was carried out by the Police Drug Squad, the Enforcement Unit of the Barbados Customs and Excise Department and the Barbados Coast Guard.
Charges are expected to be laid today.
