12-year old still critical
Police have arrested the driver of a car that struck down 12 year old Vivekanand Rudradeo on the East Coast Demerara Highway early Saturday morning.
The police were able to trace the car to Beterverwagting after recovering its licence plate which was left at the scene.
The driver of the car is at present in custody at the Sparendaam Police Station.
Rudradeo of lot 10 Ogle Airstrip Road was riding with his father when the car struck them from behind and sped away.
The 12-year old sustained the brunt of the impact and suffered severe head injuries.
He and his father were rushed to the hospital where Vivekanand Rudradeo was immediately admitted.
Up to last night he was still a patient of the Intensive Care Unit.
Using the licence plate, police traced the car to the Beterverwagting resident who was promptly detained on Saturday afternoon.
The car bore clear evidence of a recent accident with its windscreen shattered.
