Leader of the Main Opposition Party Robert Corbin says that the party has a witness that is prepared to testify in the investigation of the activities of self-confessed drug dealer Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan whenever it commences.
According to Corbin, the witness is currently under protection, given that witnesses in Guyana in key cases are mysteriously eradicated.
Corbin was responding to statements by Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General (AG), Charles Ramson, who recently told media operatives that the Roger Khan issue must not be made to supersede other important issues of currency and relevance to the nation.
He also added that there is no evidence that Roger Khan exported the ‘spy equipment’ from Guyana pointing out that there is no substantive claim of Government’s complicity in any of the criminal activities to which Khan has confessed or charged for having committed.
“As a result, the Government will not seek to pre-empt the outcome of investigations, and will not be forced to prematurely facilitate local investigations.”
Ramson had also asserted that investigation, as has been called for by many quarters, especially the Parliamentary Opposition, into Government’s alleged complicity in current trials in United States’ jurisdiction, by Interpol, the US or any other state or organisation without Guyana’s invitation or consent, is equivalent to an invasion or incursion into the territory of a sovereign state.
With regard to Ramson’s statement as it relates to a lack of evidence, Corbin said that he had turned over sworn affidavits to the then Police Commissioner – one from George Bacchus, a phantom gang informant, and another witness that is being protected, “given the far-reaching arms,” of executioners, Corbin said.
Bacchus in his sworn affidavit had said that he was invited by then Minister of Home Affairs, Ronald Gajraj to his home, where he was introduced to Selwyn Williams, Axel Williams and Wendell Caesar, and was asked to provide them with some information.
He said too that he supplied them with information on a regular basis and would in fact visit the home regularly.
Bacchus also spoke of the many guns and bullet proof vests that were at Gajraj’s home as well as the guns that the men used, even one that was lent to Axel Williams by Gajraj.
He also spoke of a list of names that he was asked to locate and when he did they were subsequently murdered, among other allegations.
According to Corbin, this information was supplied to the police and no action was taken hence the need for an international body to conduct the investigations that the party is now calling for, as it relates to the admissions of Roger Khan in the US Court as well as the revelations of his lawyer Robert Simels, who has since been found guilty of witness tampering for Roger Khan
He added, too, that there is need for an international body to conduct the investigations given the transnational nature of the crimes, as well as the fact that the opposition did not have confidence in the local authorities to conduct an impartial investigation.
