A Linden shop owner was yesterday remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Royston Jerome, 37, of 767 One-Mile Wismar, on May 28, allegedly inflicted grievous bodily harm on Ancel Marcello. It was further alleged, that on the same day with the intent to maim, disfigure, or cause grievous bodily harm, he discharged a loaded firearm at Marcello. Both charges were indictable.
Jerome was represented by attorney at law Adrian Thompson, who in a bail application, told the court that his client is innocent of the charge which is before him.
The lawyer noted that his client is not even an owner of a fireman.
Thompson said that Marcello was shot in a crowd of people.
He added that Marcello does not know for sure if it was indeed Jerome who shot him.
The lawyer further explained that the injuries that Marcello received are not life threatening.
However, Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith, objected to bail, and told the court that at the moment the virtual complainant is still hospitalised.
She said that Marcello was shot in the ankle.
Bail was denied and the accused is expected to make another court appearance on June 3.
