A businessman, his reputed wife and two other persons escaped unhurt after a lone gunman opened fire on the vehicle in which they were traveling, yesterday, hours after they were released from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The incident occurred around noon yesterday at Oleander Gardens, East Coast Demerara.
This newspaper was told that the businessman was on his way home when he noticed a Toyota Marino car approaching from the opposite direction.
As the car got closer to the sports utility vehicle that the businessman was driving, a man sporting dreadlocks and who was driving the Toyota Marino opened fire. The car then sped away.
Fortunately no one was injured. There are reports, however, that one of the bullets struck the front passenger side of the vehicle.
Investigators told this newspaper that the businessman has since reported the matter and has given a full description to the police of what the gunman looks like.
There are reports that the gunman is known to the businessman and the incident may have been as a result of a deal gone sour.
Kaieteur News was also told that some time earlier this week the businessman was among four persons held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Based on suspicions, the businessman and three persons were stopped by Police anti-narcotics ranks and brought to the city for investigation. However, after spending some time at the Georgetown Public Hospital and subjecting themselves to x-rays, the authorities failed to see any foreign objects and concluded that none of the four persons had ingested cocaine.
They were released from the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday only to be shot at by this lone gunman.
Investigations are ongoing.
