With the assistance of the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) which contributed half the airfare for each athlete, Guyana would be represented by a six-member team of five athletes and a
Manager at this year’s edition of Sports World Classic 2017 Invitational in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, today.
Dubbed physique vs mass and organized by Lawrence ‘The Beast’ Marshall, this year’s competition will be held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain from 17:00hrs.
Athletes will compete in the lightweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, heavyweight, men’s physique, bikini, women’s figure and women’s physique.
Guyana’s representation comes from Yannick Grimes, Emmerson Campbell and Caerus Cipriani who will all compete in the men’s physique competition. Grimes won the silver medal at last year’s championships and he is aiming to win gold this time around.
Rashleigh Bentick will compete in the body building segment of the competition while the lone female athlete, Alisha Fortune will aim for top honours in the body fitness competition. Managing the team is GABBFF Vice President, Seeon Satrohan.
The team, minus Campbell left Guyana yesterday, Campbell left on Thursday for the Twin Island Republic.
The ability of the federation to assist each athlete with half their airfare was achieved from the proceeds raised at the body’s novice championships, President Coel Marks, informed.
He further commented: “As part of our commitment to the needs of athletes desirous of promoting their talents overseas, our federation tangibly contributed by covering more than half the airfare of each athlete and facilitated all the athlete arrangements on the ground. We want to make sure we’re positioning ourselves to always be in a facilitatory mode to our athletes lending our support in every way we can tangibly and intangibly.”
Marks also noted that the federation is of the belief that they should try to promote and assist as many athletes to do more regional shows as a means of improving their understanding of international competitions which would create a solid stepping stone to the CAC championship which is the region’s marquee event.
Special appearances would come from T&T’s Darrem Charles – Karina Nascimento Pro Champion 2017, Ms. Shawna Pringle of the USA and her counterpart, Brandon Curry the reigning Arnold Australia and New Zealand 2017 champion.
