– Gray Team wins All-Star Game
Kwakwani Secondary School edge McKenzie High School (MHS) 48-46 in an Under-16 thriller of the National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) which continued Friday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Kemmol Benjamin scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds while Domair Gladstone had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Kwakwani to the impressive win against its Region 10 rival. Kevlon Cadogan had 15 points and seven rebounds for Kwakwani.
Meanwhile, in the Elite 24 All-Star game, the Gray Team featuring players from Georgetown beat the Green Team 53-49 with Daniel Haynes scoring 12 points and Nathan Saul adding nine points for the winners. For the opposition, Terron Welch Scored six points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Gray Team included Jonathan Pooran, Marvin Durant, Travis Belgrave, Timothy Thompson, Patrice Agrippa, Shaquille Adonis, Daniel Ramlagan, Jaleel Duke, Judah Stephney and Shakeel Garnett while the Green Team included Leonard Primo, Shafeek Thomas, Edmare Semple, Dennis Niles, Romone Fogenay, Durvash, Roopnarine, Daniel Anthony, Dellon Wallace, Shemroy McKenzie and Travis Sulton.
The Elite 24 is used as the shortlist for the Inter–Guiana Games (Basketball) team.
Continuing in the U-16 competition, St. Roses High School beat Marian Academy 53-48 with Saul scoring 25 points and Shamar Huntley 17 points and 10 rebounds. Dwayne Obermuller had 22 points and 15 rebounds for Marian Academy.
In the girls’ competition, Saints beat Roses 10-6 with Felicia Johnson scoring six points and Natasha Seymour four points and three rebounds. For Roses, Jada Amerally scored four points with four rebounds and four steals.
