– army clothing also recovered
Police last night unearthed what appeared to be the remnants of a massive arms cache during a surprise raid at a James and Victoria Street, Albouystown property.
The find, which occurred around 20.30 hrs, included four assault rifle magazines, army clothing and hundreds of spent shells. The clothing and magazines were reportedly found in a house, while the shells, which appeared to be various calibers, were found in a shed located at the back of the property.
At press time police ranks were still scouring the scene, but it is unclear whether anyone has been taken into custody.
A senior police official told Kaieteur News that ranks had gone to the house after receiving reports of an altercation in which a man had struck his brother with a piece of wood.
The team, which included ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken, then entered the property and located the magazines, clothing and a huge mound of rifle shells.
Police have been mounting daily patrols in Albouystown since last April, but this is the first time that a find of such magnitude has been made.
