West Demerara beat East Coast at Everest while Georgetown got the better of East Bank at DCC as second round action in the
Demerara Cricket Board’s (DCB) 50-over Inter-Association under-17 cricket competition continued yesterday in the city.
At DCC, East Bank won the toss and invited the city lads to bat on a track with moisture which was well exploited by Sagar Hathiramani who again showed why he is considered by many as the best off-spinner in the tournament.
Hathiramani spun webs around the batsmen to finish with 5-20 as GT were bowled out for a paltry 128 in 27.1 overs on the small ground as only national youth player Renaldo Mohamed, who smacked three sixes and a four in his 34, passed 20 for the home team.
However, Keno McKenzie responded with 5-16 and got support from Mohamed (2-13) as East Bank were bundled out for 76 in 29.5 overs despite a fighting 25 from Stephan December.
GT lost the attacking Sherfane Rutherford (9) as Navindra Seeraj made the break through at 9-1.
Raymond Perez (12) and Romesh Muniram (20) carried the score to 46 before Perez was run out to bring the talented Mohamed to the crease, but he lost partners in quick succession as GT slipped from 63-2 to their eventual 128.
Hathiramani sliced through the middle order and then got rid of Mohamed at 117-7, Ershad Ali (2-47) cleaned up the tail although Mohamed was severe on Ali in his last over which went for 17 runs.
At Everest, East Coast were asked to bat and made 124 in 40.3 with only Ramnarine Chetura (24), Shinchand Gangaram (23) and Bashar Yadram (19) reached 15 as Looknauth Chinkoo (4-35) and Kelvin Shewprashad (3-16) did the damage with the ball.
West Demerara were led to 129-3 in 29.1 overs by the accomplished Renaldo Reene (37) and an undefeated 32 from Shewprashad who finished the match with a six off Vishwanauth Ramlakhan. Shewprashad shared in an unbroken 41 run stand with Malcolm Hubbard.
The competition continues today at DCC ground and Monday at the same venue.
