The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) open lawn tennis tournament concluded with a presentation ceremony which was held last evening at the GBTI Recreational Centre, Bel Air where the outstanding participants were rewarded.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Coordinator Andrew Shaw said the tournament which lasted for 18 days was a major success. He stated that there were ninety-four (94) participants inclusive of 71 males
and 23 females and matches were played in 12 categories.
Shaw also thanked GBTI for their continuous support of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association.
Chief Executive Officer of GBTI, John Tracey said he was pleased to hear that the tournament was a success and that GBTI is happy to support the growth of tennis locally.
Tracey indicated that he was satisfied to read the media release in the Kaieteur News stating that ‘GBTI elevates young tennis players’ and that the local players are making a mark in the Caribbean which encourages sponsors.
“We at GBTI want to see the sport blossom and make a mark outside the Region. We still have a lot of work to do in terms of completing with other sports but we are moving in the right direction”, he added.
President of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association Ramesh Seebarran said the tournament provides the opportunity for the junior players to fine tune themselves for tournaments in the Caribbean.
He indicated that players from India, Nicaragua and Suriname took part in the competition. He also urged the participants to take the game seriously and spoke of the importance of fitness while crediting Kaieteur News for their high level of coverage.
