Guyana are in firm control against Barbados in the opening round of the Regional U-19 3-day tournament which started yesterday in St. Kitts.
At stumps on the first day Barbados are 53-3 in 22 overs with Jones on 9 and Stuart on 7.
Earlier, Guyana batted first and posted 234 before they were bowled out in 65.2 overs at Warner Park. Shimron Hetymer led with 39, while Brain Sattaur supported with 37 and Romario Shepherd made 36.
Guyana were off to a fine start with Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Shimron Hetymer adding 66 for the opening stand before the latter was caught at point cutting at a wide delivery. Sattaur batting at 3 played some lovely drives and along with Chanderpaul carried their team to 102. Chanderpaul was then caught for 21, while the aggressive Sattaur was taken behind for 37 at 155-3. Guyanese skipper Shawn Pereira was then dismissed for 10 to leave Guyana at 134-4. Kamesh Yadram and Ricardo Adams featured in a fifth wicket stand of 34 before Adams went for 19 at 168-5.
Guyana then lost Yadram for 23 and Gudakesh Motie Kanhai (00) in the space of 10 balls to be in a spot of bother at 168-7. Romario Shepherd and Vishal Narayan frustrated the Bajans somewhat with an eight wicket stand of 49; Guyana 200 came up in 250 minutes off 55.1 overs with twenty nine fours and one six. Narayan went for 15 and Denesh Mangal for 6 before Shepherd was caught and bowled to be the last man dismissed. Stuart 4-15, J Jones 3-31 and A Jones 2-60 were the pick of the bowlers for the Bajans.
