The inner-circuit of the National Park, Guyana’s premier cycling track will be a hive of activity once again when the cream of this nation’s cyclists collide on Saturday at the 6th George Cumberbatch Memorial Cycle Meet, sponsored by Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products.
Organised by the Roraima Bikers Club (RBC), the event is held in memory of the former National cyclist and Executive member of the RBC.
Saturday’s races as usual will have attractive cash prizes for the first to third place finishers in each event with the feature clash for racing bikes, an open event spanning 30 laps, seeing the first to sixth place finishers ‘drawing down’.
Following is the list of races:
9 – 11yrs BMX – 2 laps
12 – 14yrs BMX – 2 laps
Open BMX 4 laps
Junior/Juvenile 10 laps
Veterans U50yrs 5 laps
Veterans O50yrs 5 laps
Category 1 & 2 10 laps
Category 3 & 4 10 laps
Mountain/Upright (open) 10 laps
Racing Bikes (Open) 30 laps
Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay won last year’s feature event but to date this year he has not shown competitive form. The junior riders on the other hand have been consistent and will be a force to reckon with on Saturday with riders using the event as warm up ahead of Sunday’s third-stage of the annual Cheddi Jagan Memorial road race set for the Cinderella County of Essequibo.
