Bridgetown, Barbados – (www.bcacricket.org) – Guyana were 187 for three off 63 overs in reply to Barbados’ first innings total of 317 all out off 116.1 overs at the close of play on the second day of the fifth round regional first-class match at Kensington Oval yesterday.
The not out batsmen were Narasingh Deonarine on 63 and Ramnaresh Sarwan, 19.
Left-hander Deonarine has so far batted for 189 minutes, faced 141 balls and struck eight boundaries. He reached his fifty in 137 minutes off 108 balls with six fours.
Trevon Griffith was caught at second slip by Christopher Jordan from a defensive stroke off left-arm pacer Pedro Collins, for 17 (26-1; 4.5 overs); Leon Johnson, hooking, was caught at first slip by Sulieman Benn off medium-pacer Jonathan Carter for 16 (47-2; 14.4) and Assad Fudadin was leg before wicket by pacer Jordan for 62 (152-3; 51.5 overs).
Fudadin batted for 191 minutes, received 136 balls and hit eight fours and one six. He got to his half-century in 132 minutes off 84 balls with seven fours and one six.
Barbados, from an overnight 227 for five, were bowled out shortly before lunch.
Left-hander Carter, who resumed on 50, was dismissed in the day’s second ball, caught at first slip by skipper Shivnarine Chanderpaul off fast bowler Brandon Bess without addition (227-6; 90.2 overs); Jordan was well caught low at slip by Christopher Barnwell off off-spinner Deonarine for 12 (261-7; 100.2 overs); Benn, sliced a drive off Barnwell to gully in Johnson after scoring 15 (286-8; 107.1 overs); Shane Dowrich, who started the day on nine, was bowled middle stump by pacer Ronsford Beaton for 54 (317-9; 115.3 overs) and Pedro Collins, playing back to an arm ball from left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, was leg before wicket for 16 (317 all out, 116.1 overs).
Carter batted for 170 minutes, faced 106 balls and hit five boundaries. Dowrich was at the crease for 115 minutes, received 82 balls and struck six fours. Bess took three for 45 and Permaul, three for 64.
Scores: Guyana 187/3 replying to Barbados 317.
And in other action: Trinidad and Tobago were struggling at 89- 5 at stumps in reply to Jamaica 290 first innings score.
Kanhai 20* and Hooper 17* were the not out batsmen at the wicket. Ganga 1, Mohammed 22, Khan 14, Barclay 6 and Guillen 0 were all back in the pavilion. Richardson 2, Cotterel 2 and Miller 1 shared the wickets for Jamaica.
Carlton Baugh went on to make 140 after starting the day on 101 with Jamaica on 242-9.
Meanwhile, the Leewards were 98/4 batting a second time up to press time. They were dismissed for 121 in their first innings to which the Windwards replied with 178. Liam Sebastien 77, Polius 25, Tonge 21 and Pascal 22 ensure the Windwards took first innings honours.
