The body of a 47-year-old Enterprise Gardens, East Coast Demerara resident was pulled from a canal in the community, sparking an investigation.
Police said in a press release that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Davanand Motielall, whose body was found at about 06:30 hours yesterday.
While police have not yet ruled out foul play, initial investigations are pointing to the excessive consumption of alcohol by Motielall.
This newspaper understands that the man was last seen consuming alcohol at an event which was held at the Enterprise Community Centre ground the night before.
According to a source, Motielall was seen leaving the venue in an intoxicated state.
Although his relatives missed him, it was not until his body was discovered by residents that they knew of the fate that had befallen him.
The body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.
