Gunners SC, Ravens SC, Walton Hall SC and Lima SC recorded victories in the first round of the Shariff and Shirah Khan twenty/20 Memorial Cricket competition played last Sunday in North Essequibo.
At Anna Regina, Gunners beat Danielstown by eight wickets. Danielstown batted first and were bowled out for 81 in 16.2 overs. Elvis Prince top scored with 27 while Ray Nedd made 21 as Darren Romeo and Christopher Blucher took two wickets each for Gunners who replied with 82 in 13.2 overs. Glendon Smith made 42 not out and Navin Singh 18.
At Cotton field, Ravens defeated Sparwin by 13 runs. Ravens took first strike and scored 124 all out in 19 overs. Dennis Benjamin 26 and Punraj Singh 24 were their leading run getters. Bowling for Sparwin, Raj Kumar grabbed 3-21 and Dennis Lall 2-21. Sparwin in reply were all out for 111 in 18 overs. Kumar Narine cracked 58 while Timmy Rambarran captured 3-16 and Punraj Singh 3-24 for the victors.
At Walton Hall, the host overcame Police by 10 runs. Walton Hall took first turn at the crease and managed 123-4 off their allotted overs. Ravindra Balgobin made 47. Police made 113 before they were bowled out in 19 overs in response. Ravi Beharry and Ramesh Chattergoon made 37 each as Suresh Sookdeo bagged 5-10 and Uvendra Balgobin 2-12 for Walton Hall.
At Lima, the home team got the better of Young Achievers; batted first and were skittled out for 74 in 18 overs. Abdool Salim took 2-12 for Lima who won in 13 overs ending on 75-2 in reply. Avaire Mc Donald stroked 47.
