A family of five lost their two-bedroom home and all their valuables in a mystery fire, at around 20:30 hrs last night, at Grove, East Bank Demerara. None of the occupants was at home when the fire occurred.
The owner, Esther Gordon, was at a loss to say how the mishap occurred, since the house is without electricity.
Ms. Gordon said that she was in Caneville, East Bank Demerara, when her daughter, Vilanda Gordon, contacted her by cell phone and informed her that her home was ablaze.
By the time she arrived at the scene, the entire house was engulfed in flames, making it impossible for anyone to attempt to save any of the family’s belongings.
According to the woman, the fire occurred about 30 minutes after her daughter left the premises. However, she said that the daughter had not left anything alight.
Ms. Gordon said she has been given temporary shelter at a neighbour’s home.
