Cyclists from Berbice made sure that their sojourn to the Capitol City, Georgetown was worth the while. The riders gave a good account of thems
elves when the first segment of National Cycling Championship was held last Sunday in Georgetown. This is according to Cycle Coach Randolph Roberts.
Berbicians riders were first and second in the junior category with Ajay Gopilall taking first place in a close tussle from Ralph Sewnarine of the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) in the 80-miles event.
It was a dominant performance from the riders from the Ancient County in the Juvenile category with the FACC pair of Mario Washington and Jeremiah Joseph riding in first and second with other Berbicians Jonathan Ramsuchit, David Hicks and Steve Bhimsen rounding out the top five.
The Masters 80 miles, event was a close affair with Andy Spencer winning from Paul Choo-Wee-Nam and Alex Mendes.
Denise Jeffery hadn’t much to worry about as she easily won the female race from Elizabeth Small and Berbician Shamika Teixeira.
The event concludes next Sunday with the senior riders set to take to the road in the 120-mile road race. The event will commence at Homestretch Avenue in Georgetown and proceed to Moblissa Hill, up the Linden Highway before turning back to return to its point of origin.
