Police Sergeant, Joseph Elton Ambrose, died Wednesday night after a fatal accident on Sunday night.
The father of two, who has been in the force since 1995 succumbed at about 1:00hrs on Thursday last.
According to the force, the rank was known for being pleasant, respected, and committed.
The force noted that the late sergeant was on his 500-day leave which began on April 9, last.
A post mortem is expected to be conducted today.
On the date of the accident Ambrose was reportedly driving motor car PMM 9099 north along the western carriageway of the East Bank Public Road.
Reports also stated that he lost control and smashed into motor lorry GLL 5592, which was parked.
Ambrose was later rushed by public-spirited citizens to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was stabilised before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Ambrose became the fifth police officer to have been killed on the roads this year.
Female Immigration Officer Mauava Chase died in a motorcycle accident at Houston. She was reportedly the pillion rider of the motorcycle which was being ridden by Berket King.
King reportedly lost control of the motorcycle along the Houston turn and crashed into a post on the median.
Another fatal accident that claimed the life of a police officer was the Loo Creek crash.
The late Theon Hope, 24, a Police Corporal of Lamaha Park, was in a motor car that collided with the rear of a motor lorry GWW 8443, with trailer TWW 8912 laden with lumber. The vehicles were travelling in the same direction.
A police inspector, Ian Welch, succumbed after his vehicle overturned at Lethem.
And the most recent was officer Cordis Joseph who died after crashing the car he had borrowed.
