Neville Haynes of 419 North East, La Penitence, stood without remorse before Magistrate Leron Daly, as he was sentenced to two years imprisonment for chopping his friend over a bicycle dispute.
It was alleged that on April 27, at Dowding Street Kitty, Haynes unlawfully and maliciously wounded Collin Moore with the intention of causing bodily harm.
The court heard that prior to the day of the incident, Haynes, the victim and another friend known as “Redman” were hanging out at a stand with the bicycle.
During this period, the defendant fell asleep. He consequently woke up to find his bike and the friends with whom he was chatting, missing.
The 38-year-old defendant began looking for the two guys and found “Redman” who told him that the bike was in Moore’s possession.
Prosecutor, Sanj Singh stated that Haynes confronted Moore and as the dispute escalated, Haynes pulled out a knife and chopped Moore across his face.
The wound required 23 stitches outside and 13 stitches on the inside.
When asked if he had anything to say, the defendant told the court “It gon teach he not to thief from he friend.”
Magistrate Daly imposed a sentence of two years on Haynes.
