A 35-year-old labourer on Friday faced Magistrate Leron Daly after he allegedly stole from a rental storeowner.
The court heard that between April 30 and May 1 at Lot 7 North Road, Georgetown, Seon Birth allegedly broke into the store owned by Nigel Pile about 14:00 hrs and stole items from the store.
He denied that he broke into the rental store and stole 24 chairs valued $600,000, one air conditioner compressor valued $85,000 and a mattress valued $85,000.
According to the charge, Pile had locked up his business on April 30, 2018 and upon his return on May 1, he noticed that someone had broken into the store.
After the matter was reported and investigations were carried out, nine out of the 24 chairs were recovered in the possession of the defendant.
The defendant told the court that he resided at 142 Quamina Street and works as a labourer, but according to the Prosecutor, Birth does not have a permanent place of residence.
In his defence, he told the court that some other guy had placed the chairs there in his care. The prosecutor objected to bail being granted and Birth was further remanded to prison.
The matter is expected to be heard again on May 25.
