Last Saturday at the Police Officers’ Mess Hall, seven of the first batch of 12 “MAXIDO” adult self defence system students were graded to ‘Yellow Belt’ status, under the examining eyes of invited Martial Artists, 5th Dan Black Belt Master Lancelot Wilkie, 5th Dan Sensei Cheteram Mortley, overseas-based Lady Sensei Bonita Montague and Founder/Chief Instructor of MAXIDO, 5th Dan Master Max Massiah.
The students who were aged between 20-60 years of age, displayed Kata and demonstrations of the techniques learnt during their 6-week ‘Accelerated’ training course. Those elevated to Yellow Belt ranking were Christopher Chin, Shellon Nedd, Leslie Sobers, Timera Aaron, Althea Croal, Claudette Andrews and Clive Jordan.
MAXIDO was launched last October in the USA where the 1st training class was conducted with students, age ranging from 30 to 72 years old (the eldest being a female).
This training was specifically formulated for business owners, professionals, workers, law enforcement and security personnel, with special emphasis on the elderly & females, all who are/may be subjected to stick-ups, bullies, unlawful assault, domestic/physical abuse, muggings, rape etc.
The founder, Massiah, noted that all the techniques are basically strict 4-second (or less) applications of submission and breakage/dislocation of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers with a theme of pain application for bullies.
The Chief Instructor complimented the students on acquiring their Yellow belt while reminding that constant practice with dedication must be the foremost on their mind, and the techniques learnt are only to be used in extreme circumstances, in cases where their only choice is to defend themselves and family after all attempts to diffuse a situation and prevent themselves from being harmed has been exhausted.
The MAXIDO Dojo is located within the compound of SWANSEA in Waterloo St, (between Lamaha & New Market Sts). Classes are held Monday to Thursday between 5 to 7pm.
Max Massiah can be contacted on (592) 609-8132, for those who wish to learn MAXIDO.
