A Montrose, East Coast Demerara family is counting the lucky stars after their home came under attack early Tuesday morning.
Businessman, Sheik Fareed of Lot 2 Montrose East Coast Demerara, Railway Embankment told Kaieteur News that he was asleep with his wife Zorinna and their toddler son when, he was awoken by an explosion. The couple recalled that it was around 5:15 hrs when the attack occurred and the outdoors was still dark. He said that neighbours were alerted by the sounds and came to their rescue.
“All we see is the flames at the window and we start holla fire,” Fareed stated.
“We didn’t see who throw the bomb but we find a half litre Pepsi bottle, channa and gasoline and a wick.”
Although no-one was injured, the fire caused notable damage to the couple’s two- storey house. The man’s wife told Kaieteur News that the bomb exploded near a bedroom window, where their baby was sleeping.
“If that bottle had passed through the window the baby could have been hurt because his bed is closest to the window.”
While the couple is at a loss as to who would want to bomb their house, Mr. Fareed noted that they are at odds with operators of business place that is located a short distance away.
“We have been complaining about the noise nuisance for some time now. It is only recently that other residents came together to file a police report.”
The couple said that while they are not alone with the complaints of noise nuisance, when the matter came up at the Magistrates’ Court on Monday, “we were the only ones present.”
“No one else showed up but we don’t have a problem with these operators. All we are concerned about is the noise nuisance.”
The couple has since filed a report with the police at Plaisance Police Station and an investigation into the matter has been launched.
