Lima Sands residents have reported that the last jaguar which was caught by a resident known as “Pigey” escaped from the trap in which he was housed for the last two weeks or so.
After the capture of the jaguar, residents said officials at the Environmental Protection Agency had told them to release the animal back into the wild. The result was that the man who caught the jaguar was soliciting a market for the animal.
The last captured jaguar at Lima Sands was the fourth such animal to be captured by residents in the Region. Two were previously captured at Mainstay/Whyaka, while the third was captured at Capoey, all Amerindian communities.
The jaguars emerged from the Savanaas in search of food some time last year. They targeted domesticated animals and dogs ever since their emergence. (Yannason Duncan)
