The United States of America has yet again signaled that more and more Guyanese who visit the country are returning home. So pleased is the United States with the rate of return that it is even encouraging more Guyanese visitors.
At the most recent function held by the United States Embassy, Guyanese were invited to “visit our wonderful country.”
It was the occasion of a reception in observance of the Independence the United States gained on July 4, 1776. Chief of Mission, Bryan Hunt told the gathering that within the last year, the United States Embassy in Guyana issued over 30,000 non-immigrant visas.
He added, “We encourage more Guyanese to visit our wonderful country to see firsthand the many bonds that unite us,”
Also, Hunt said that the United States of America is interested in seeing more Guyanese students studying in the U.S. and be part of the 100,000 Strong Initiative, and share perspectives on issues such as climate change, entrepreneurship and governance.
Hunt’s announcement was greeted with loud applause and subsequently a statement of acknowledgment from Prime Minister and first Vice-President Moses Nagamootoo.
“Our government welcomes the open door policy that allows thousands of our people to visit the USA,” he said.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo said he was particularly pleased with the opportunity afforded to young Guyanese to pursue education in the United States.
