In an opinion piece I wrote and which was published in this newspaper on April 27 headlined ‘What will the selectors come up with? I wrote ‘Demerara Captain Travis Persaud is a classy right-handed batsman but his temperament off the field does not recommend him as a leader’.
I retract the part which says ‘but his temperament off the field does not recommend him as a leader’ since I was too hard on the youngster, who is under-18.
I offer apologies to Travis and his parents (who I both know play a big role in not only his life but also his cricket career) for any embarrassment my story might have caused Travis and his parents. (Sean Devers)
