Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has implemented an interim 10 per cent fuel rebate from the beginning of this month as approved by the Public Utilities Commission across all tariff categories.
According to the power company, “The interim rebate takes effect from March, 1, 2015. It will immediately impact those customers whose reading began in February and end in March and subsequent month consumption.”
This was as a result of an announcement made by President Donald Ramotar last month at the commissioning of GPL’s newly built Wartsila 26 MW Power Plant at Vreed-en-Hoop.
GPL noted that the 10 per cent fuel rebate is being applied to the Residential, Commercial and Industrial tarrifs. The rebate is in keeping with the fall in the world market fuel prices, resulting in the decision to reduce tariff rates by 10 per cent.
“Consumers should be aware that the 10 per cent rebate is being applied to energy charges and not fixed charges. This 10 per cent fuel rebate across all tariffs is estimated to pass on to consumers annually $3B through the reduction in their electricity bills.
“This reaffirms GPL’s continued commitment to provide quality electricity supply at fair costs to our valued customers, as oil prices continue to fall on the world market.”
