A woman, who allegedly lives with a teenage girl, beat the girl’s mother after the woman objected to the relationship. She was sentenced to one month in jail, yesterday on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
The victim was Shamiroon Abrahim, and the assault occurred on January 21, last, outside of the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Babita Isaacs, called “Buff”, 39, of No 68 village, Corentyne, Berbice was accused of having a same sex relationship with a teenager who had attempted to commit suicide on January 21. It was understood that the teen was forcibly married to an older man to escape the clutches of Buff and consumed the poisonous substance and was hospitalized.
The mother of the teen went to the hospital to see her daughter and confronted “Buff” who was there. They had an altercation over the reported relationship with the teen. As she exited the New Amsterdam Hospital and was waiting on transportation on the road she was approached by Isaacs who dealt her several cuffs, slaps and scrapes about her body.
The matter was reported at the Central Police Station and Abrahim was sent for medical attention at the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was diagnosed with trauma to the head and back, and scrapes to the chest. Isaacs was arrested and charged.
Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sherriff told the court that the virtual complainant is the mother of three girls. One daughter had got married on July 19, and was not happy with the man she married as such she attempted to kill herself two days later.
He stated that the accused and the virtual complainant were known to each other for about a month. On the day in question the defendant and the virtual complainant had two separate altercations outside the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The woman had told the court that the girl’s mother Shaimoon Abrahim had ‘scandaled’ her name, accusing her of having a relationship with her daughter. Isaacs, was first placed on $35,000 bail.
