A Police Constable is currently nursing a damaged main artery in his leg, a broken shoulder and several injuries about his body at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he collided with a minibus on Puruni Road, about seven miles from the Mazaruni Crossing on Tuesday afternoon.
Constable Ryan Craigen, who is stationed at the Itaballi Police Outpost, said that he was heading to a nearby “landing” with two occupants on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) around 13 :30 hours, when he collided with a minibus while taking a turn on the road.
According to the constable, the minibus driver was speeding, and occupied the “wrong lane” when he took the turn, causing the collision.
“I took the left lane while heading to the landing, but when I bank the turn I saw the minibus coming on the left lane also, so I tried my best to avoid it. After that I don’t know what happened,” the policeman recounted.
The constable was rushed to the Bartica Hospital with a nearby speedboat, and the two persons he was transporting at the time, were reportedly unharmed.
He was transferred to GPHC on Tuesday night.
According to Craigen, he only gained consciousness on Wednesday afternoon. He said that he is slowly recovering and hopes to resume duty soon. He noted that the matter was reported at the Bartica Police Station and investigations are ongoing.
