Petra Organisation/COURTS Pee Wee Football tournament
Defending champions St. Pius were held to a nil-all stalemate when the 4th Annual Courts Pee Wee Football Tournament kicked off yesterday, at the Thirst Park Ground.
Playing against Kitty-based J.E. Burnham, St. Pius fielding a number of new players from last year’s victorious team squandered a lot of chances in what many considered an exciting clash in roasting conditions witnessed by a fair-sized crowd that included teachers, parents and fans.
J.E Burnham Primary created a few chances of their own, but found the St. Pius defensive line too sturdy to penetrate and eventually had to settle for a share of the points.
Both teams will now have to look to next week’s engagements to improve their standings in the group.
Meanwhile, in what could be considered the best game of the day, Stella Maris led by the skilful Darron Niles, who was a one-man wreckage unit squeezed past inaugural champions Marian Academy 2-1 in the final game of the day.
The pint-sized dynamo netted in the 22nd and 24th minute to give his school the win, while Alistair Phyll responded for Marian Academy in the 28th minute.
Meanwhile, Courts Marketing Manager Pernell Cummings shortly before declaring the tournament open said that his company is elated to once again be on board with Petra Organisation to host the event and conveyed their committed to having the tournament as long as possible.
