A sawmill employee was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Sunday last, after he was bitten by a venomous snake.
He was injured while picking fruits in his uncle’s Canal #2, West Bank Demerara farm.
Karamchand Singh, an employee at C. P. S. Investments and also a resident of Canal #2, said that on Sunday he and his brother decided to visit their uncle’s farm to pick fruits for their family.
Singh, 20, said that they ventured into the farm around 17:30 hours and “split up” to pick the fruits.
Singh said that he had managed to pick some oranges and tangerines before he was bitten on his right leg by a “Carpet Labaria” snake which had concealed itself under a lime tree he was about to pick from.
The sawmill employee said that his screams of pain alerted his brother who ran to his assistance.
Singh said that his brother used his shirt to “strap the leg tightly”, before rushing him to the hospital.
The 20-year-old related that he arrived at the Accident and Emergency Unit, groaning and writhing in pain, with his left leg swollen, discoloured and bleeding.
Yesterday Singh related to this publication, that doctors are still in the process of removing all the venom from the wound.
