A senior city Magistrate is expected to decide today whether to send a man charged for murdering his brother to
trial in the High Court.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry indicated yesterday that she will deliver her decision after the Prosecution closes its case today.
Rohan Teekaram, 42, is charged with murdering his brother Jairam Teekaram at their Kaneville, East Bank Demerara residence between April 20 and 22, last.
Teekaran’s body was found in a clump of bushes with the head almost severed on April 22, last, and three days later his older brother was arraigned for his murder.
The Preliminary Inquiry is ongoing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and eight civilians and three police witnesses have so far testified on the State’s behalf.
Rohan Teekaram is unrepresented by legal counsel and the case is being prosecuted by Inspector, Michael Grant.
At the commencement on Wednesday, Naithram Teekaram, son of the deceased, another relative, Jasodra Teekaram as well as several neighbours and family friends were called to testify. These included Hemwattie Latchman, Komal Gopaul, Mohammed Afeez, Wellington DaCosta and Glenn Baptiste.
Yesterday as the PI continued, the Prosecution called upon Deputy Superintendent of Police, Michael Kingston, Detective Corporal Devon Lowe and Detective Corporal Jomo Williams to testify on the roles they played during the investigations.
