A recently promoted Police Sergeant has landed in hot water after he was held with an unlicensed 9mm pistol at a Cane Grove, Mahaica wedding house on Saturday night.
The Sergeant has been placed under close arrest as investigators first try to ascertain the origin of the weapon which had 14 live rounds at the time it was recovered from the embattled Sergeant.
The Sergeant might have gotten away with being in possession of the weapon had he not discharged it indiscriminately during a drunken spree at the wedding house.
Unfortunately for him also, among the guests at the wedding were the wife and daughter of the Commissioner of Police (Ag) Seelall Persaud.
According to reports, the Cop opened fire during the celebrations sending guests scampering for cover.
Kaieteur News understands that a police mobile patrol unit which was at the time under the command of a Female Police Inspector was in the area and responded to the report of shooting.
The Sergeant was pointed as the person who did the shooting and he was quickly confronted.
A search of his person revealed the weapon which he did not have a licence to carry.
The Sergeant could face criminal charges as early as this week.
