For this year, officials of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation will be placing even greater emphasis on the institution’s Maternity Unit in an effort to ensure all mothers leave the facility without any complaints or discomfort.
This announcement was made by the health institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Khan during an interview at his office yesterday.
After receiving numerous complaints from patients and their relatives about the nurses’ uncaring behaviour, officials from the hospital launched a Communication Programme some time ago where nurses as well as various staffers from the facility benefitted from training which will enable them to interact with patients in a friendly but professional way.
Khan in the interview said that there will be more training this year for midwives and nurses from the Maternity Unit so that patients in future would not have any complaints and would in fact, enjoy their stay in a comfortable ward with friendly staff.
“Since we started the programme, the number of complaints we were receiving in the past about the nurses, have decreased significantly. The training is continuous,” Khan posited.
He added that there will also be an upgrade of equipment at the unit for this year. “We will purchase more fetal monitors for the ward.”
The fetal monitor is a device that checks unborn babies to ensure that there are no abnormalities or difficulties. One of the equipment is valued $1.2M.
