A fleeing thief ended up badly bruised and in handcuffs at around 21:00 hrs on Saturday night when he ran into the path of a taxi, shortly after snatching a woman’s mobile phone on Mandela Avenue. Kaieteur News understands that the victim, a 23-year-old nurse, had just left the National Gymnasium with her boyfriend, following a hockey match, when the thief struck.
According to reports, the two friends were sitting in a car observing the heavy traffic on Mandela Avenue, when a teen snatched the nurse’s Blackberry phone.
The thief was about to flee to the western side of Mandela Avenue when he ran into the path of a taxi.
Fortunately, he only sustained minor injuries. The hapless would-be robber was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation before being handcuffed and detained by police.
The Blackberry was smashed to pieces.
