The Namilco Football Festival will enter its second night of competition with a double-header, at the Tucville ground this evening.
In the curtain raiser, Guyana Defence Force will confront Black Pearl at 18:00hrs, while Guyana Police Force will test Santos FC at 20:00hrs.
The competition which got off to an enterprising start on Sunday with Sunburst Camptown and Beacon FC making it to the next phase will obviously see all four teams setting their ambitions of joining those already in the next round.
Speaking with President of the Fruta Conquerors Club organizers of the Festival, he stated that two “ding dong” battles are expected with the ball weavers from the disciplined forces looking to advance in the competition, while Black Pearl will harbour the same ambitions of progressing at their expense.
“We can expect two ding dong battles for sure; the match between Police and Santos should provide some extra excitement, so we want to encourage the fans to come out and witness some high quality football,” Cole said.
He added that Police and Santos are known for producing exciting football whenever they clash and tonight should be no different.
“Well, we hope the football fraternity can come out and witness the games, because the weather has been kind to us over the last week and the turf is in excellent condition, so you can look forward to some very good, competitive football,” Cole explained.A vociferous crowd was treated to two competitive games on Sunday night when Camptown defeated the University of Guyana 3-1 and Beacon FC trounced Northern Rangers 4-0 to book their places in the next stage of the competition.
Admission to the venue is $500 per person. The teams are battling for a top prize of one million dollars, while the runner-up collects $500,000.
Namilco apart, the other corporate entities on board are Global Technology, 2J’s General Store, Bayridge Taxi Service and Banks DIH Limited, who have sponsored the individual prizes.
