Dear Editor,
Mr Editor, permit me space in the newspapers so I can respond to my friend Orin Davis who submitted a letter in response to mine’s recently.
Hello Orin, this is Theresa, I am a female so there is no need to assume my sex anymore and I have children who play football, male and female, maybe unfortunately, I hope not.
You wanted me to name the czars, don’t you know them, you seems to be a guy who is around and about the football fraternity, your ramblings don’t indicate otherwise.
In Dictionary.com – Czar means “An autocratic ruler or leader” “Any person exercising great authority or power in a particular field” and Autocratic means “Tyrannical, Despotic and Domineering”.
Mr Davis look at what is happening to football in Georgetown and Guyana, is it that the players, the important persons are benefiting, without football there is no need for administrators. Who are dominating the headlines, over the past few months, there are more disputed articles in the dailies than match results, outstanding performance of players, player secures a contract, professional club seeks player. Why is that so? Because of the so called czars, Sir there is no need for me to call names, the list is too long, you figure it out.
On the issue of numbers attending the 2 matches, come on Mr Davis let us not be exact, I never did a study on crowd estimation in my life time and based on what I saw, heard and read the figures may be either accurate or inaccurate. I don’t have the time to sit and count every individual that enters a ground so as to ascertain exactness. That is not the point, the point is that one ground was overfilled and the other had a sprinkling of people unlike the previous years, whether it was 2,000 or 3,000 close or near is irrelevant.
You want to know if it was Fernando Alonso driving me on the night to attend both finals. Now my good friend, attending both finals is not impossible. I never said I attended both of the Final matches, I said I attended both Finals, in football language when someone said that they are going to the Finals that most time means that they will also witness the 3rd Place play off which is traditional. If you want specifics on what I did on that day is another story but to set your mind at ease I visited both venues that same evening because the 1st matches started sometime around 7 pm and concluded sometime after 11 pm, ample time to fly to Trinidad and back, get the picture.
With regards to Lumumba and Matthias, I humbly submit that you are correct on that aspect of them not being able to fixing their clubs and GFA and are seeking higher office, that would be a travesty of justice if that ever comes into fruition.
I will continue to say greed and ego caused this, me and you know better, I will not get into the ramifications at this time.
You touched on a sensitive area, race, it is a known fact that one particular race supports football and by ‘dissing’ them they in turn ‘diss’ you. I am a supporter of Kashif and Shanghai and I respect them for their organisational ability, they are second to none but the evidence is there, they were not supported by the masses.
True, the business community which is comprised of the other race dolls out millions which is used up in the administration of the tournament, transportation, meals, accommodation, paying workers, ground rentals, referees fees and the list goes on. K & S gets their profit from the gates, if the gate do bad they lose, last year they lost. They have a lot to do to fill back the stands and grounds. I wish them well.
In the mean time while they plan for 2012 tournament, the GFF and GFA is embroiled in court cases and God willing I hope that good judgement be the order of the day and come 1st Feb 2012 football will be back on good footing as Mr Lorrie Alexander used to say “Thing na regula”.
Theresa
