Two Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara residents are at “war” over
approximately 1000 square feet of land.
According to Harry Sankar, he resides at 120 Mon Repos EBD and since 2006 one of his neighbours has been occupying about 1000 square feet of his land which he had paid for and for which he also pays taxes.
He added that in 2006, he confronted his neighbour, showing the individuals his documents (Title of Land). Despite that, the neighbour “went and concrete the yard” when Sankar migrated to Trinidad for a period.
After he returned from Trinidad, Sankar said he again confronted his neighbours but they claimed that the land was “survey again” and it belongs to them.
The disturbed Sankar said he then visited the Ministry of Housing, where they showed him a plan that indicated that the piece of land is indeed his. He then visited the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and Lands and Survey, who all allegedly said that the land was his.
According to Sankar, Lands and Survey told him that they would send someone to look into the matter but “up to today no one come.”
