Suhai Feng was crowned the new National Junior Chess Champion after defeating Cecil Cox in a playoff by a margin of two games to one. Heading into the final round Feng had secured a half point lead over Cox. Feng came up against Anthony Drayton, who handed him his only loss of the tournament, while Cox was held to a draw by Sham Khan.
When the seven rounds regulation period ended, Feng and Cox were tied on six points apiece, thus, ensuring a playoff of three games, one rapid and two blitz. In the rapid encounter with both players having fifteen minutes on the clock, it was Feng who prevailed.
Cox rebounded to take the second game (10 mins), but wilted to the pressure of Feng in their third encounter (5 mins).
Former Junior Champion, Ron Motilall finished third, while Anthony Drayton took the fourth position. The presentation will be held at a date to be announced. The tournament was sponsored exclusively by Sasha Cells.
