A seaman yesterday went missing after being taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by his wife after his workmates brought him home in shackles claiming the man was “freaking out”.
Thirty-six year-old Hilton Nedd, of New Hope, East Bank Demerara, yesterday disappeared from the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit after he told his wife he was feeling very hot and wanted to get some air. He was last seen wearing a red jersey, boxer shorts with no footwear or cap.
Reports are that Nedd left for sea as per normal on Saturday, last, but his colleagues took him to the Ruimveldt Police Station in shackles yesterday, explaining that he was not in his right senses and wanted to “jump overboard” while they were at sea.
This was the reason they used shackles to restrain him.
Nedd was brought back to shore at around 15:30 hrs (3:30pm) yesterday and his wife, Devi Thomas, was subsequently informed of her husband’s condition.
She was instructed to take him to the GPHC, but was puzzled as to why no rank accompanied her since they had stated that he was “freaking out”.
Thomas told this publication that she and her husband have three children and that he has never behaved this way before.
Anyone who has information leading to Hilton Nedd’s whereabouts can contact his family on any of the following telephone numbers:- 219-3263, 600-7800, 609-7800, 648-8812, 643-6767 or 693-6966.
A male relative stated that Nedd’s family has no history of mental illness and that there is a great deal of uncertainty as to what could have triggered his strange behaviour.
