Having witnessed the success of the first round of karting recently, the Guyana Motor racing & Sports Club has planned another round of competition today at the entity’s location in Thomas Lands.
Always looking to create an atmosphere that could be shared by competitors and family, the entity is promising another day of exciting endurance karting and fun for all.
A source close to the club speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday said that apart from attempting to provide fun and entertainment for lovers of the sport, another vital aspect is the fact that karting is seen as the initial process in honing the skills of potential competitors in the sport.
It is where they first start to understand the rudiments of the sport and the discipline required to participate in the sport.
The official added that the Meet that was held previously was well attended and the response from the public has fuelled optimism and the event could soon enjoy a prominent spot on their calendar of events.
“I think that from the support we received the executive could very well decide to make it a regular feature on our calendar of events,” the official mentioned.
Among the teams that performed outstandingly at the last event were the combination of Stephen Vieira, Marcel Profitt and Elliot Vieira, Jimmy Ten-Pow, Wayne Vieira and Andy Phang, and Keith, Clint and Raymond Seebarran.
Nickel Seereeram, Edward and Alex Power were also among the top performers.
Matthew Phang unofficially holds the lap record of 41.51 seconds which was registered at the last Meet.
Karting is usually the avenue that most of the top drivers in the world use to launch their careers and one of the most famous ones is former F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
