Fifty-one year-old Edel Alemba Passos, had his face disfigured by a cutlass-wielding man on Sunday last around 19:00 hours at Ikawan, Cuyuni River.
Police in a statement said that their investigations have so far revealed that Passos and another man were involved in an argument during which he was fatally stabbed. The suspect has not yet been arrested.
This newspaper understands that the two men were imbibing at a shop in the mining district when Passos accused the other man of stealing his sunshades.
Eyewitnesses told police that during the ensuing argument, Passos who was armed with a knife attempted to stab the suspect to his chest but was unsuccessful.
Thinking that everything was over, Passos turned his back and walked away.
But the suspect, who was still enraged, grabbed a cutlass and pursued Passos and chopped him across his mouth.
According to eyewitnesses, so severe was the wound that Passos’s neck was almost severed.
His body is now lying at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.
