A number of teachers, church members, family members and friends were seen with tears streaming down their faces.
The congregation sang a number of hymns and special songs such as “Blessed Assurance”, “When We All Get To Heaven” and “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”. Their Sunday School Teacher, Allison Jackman, gave a tearful tribute.
The Eulogy was done by Colletta Weatherspoon and special songs were sung by Raheem Mc Greggor and Sian James. The sermon was delivered by Pastor Cheryl-Ann Andrews.
The bodies were finally laid to rest at the Beterverwagting Cemetery, East Coast Demerara.
It was reported that the two small children were left at home alone and perished at around 06:15 hrs on Tuesday, last, in a fire that destroyed their family’s shack at Dazzell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
Julius De Clou, six, and his four-year-old brother, Josiah, were reportedly asleep when the blaze, which is believedto have been caused by a lighted kerosene stove, ravaged the structure.
The children’s mother, 27-year-old Ashona Letlow, had left to go to a nearby house to iron a school shirt.
The woman had taken her one-year-old son with her. By the time she returned, the fire had already consumed the one-bedroom building, located on the reserve between the communities of Bare Roots and Dazzell Housing Scheme.
