Hindus throughout Guyana will today join their counterparts throughout the world in celebrating the festival of Navraatri, which marks the commencement of the Hindu New Year.
For the next nine days, Hindus will participate in fasting, devotion and prayers dedicated to the motherly aspect of God.
Commencing this evening services will be held at all Mandirs throughout the country and a special welcome is being extended to all by the Garnette Street, Campbellville Mandir.
The nine day period of fasting will end on April 12 when the special festival of Ramnawmi will be celebrated.
According to the Hindu calendar, today is the beginning of the year 2016.
