Amateur boxers would be kept busy over the coming weekend when the Harpy Eagles Boxing Gym hosts 2 nights of fistic fury on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 at the Old Sawmill yard, Independence Boulevard, 36 Albouys Street, Albouystown.
The occasion will mark the Anniversary celebrations of the Gym and will showcase the talents of young pugilists from several of the local gyms. Coach of the gym, James Walcott explained that ever since rehabilitative works have been completed one year ago, the facility has served as home to a host of boxers, both genders that have been able to hone their skills at the facility.
The gym, situated one block away from the actual tournament venue, had been given a facelift approximately one year ago when Vice President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, Maurice Rajkumar had donated more than a quarter million dollars to install a toilet and bath as well as effect other repairs to the facility. Ever since then the gym has produced several outstanding pugilists and two of them, women boxers, Ansila Norville and Amanda Charles will be in action one night prior to the Harpy Eagles tournament, this time at the ProAm boxing card on Friday evening next.
Meanwhile, Walcott is appealing to the business community as well as well wishers for contributions towards the success of the tournament. Those interested in making contributions may call the coach at telephone 695-6895.
Boxers are also advised to go to the venue of the tournament at 09:00hrs on fight day for the weigh in ceremony.
The action will get underway shortly afterwards. A small donation towards the continued rehabilitative works of the gym would be taken at the gate.
