Rain poured down on the city yesterday morning and hampered second day’s play for fourth round matches in the Carib Beer 1st division competition. Umpires abandoned games and there wasn’t any play in none of the matches.
Although, the predicted results for the games at DCC, GCC, and Everest were probably draws, Malteenoes at Everest were high on confidence and looked good in the field.
Scores: Malteenoes 241-8 decl.; Transport 48-2
Over at the Demerara Cricket Club: DCC 276 all out; GNIC 12-0.
At GCC: GCC 305 all out; Police 15-0
The Noble House Seafoods 2nd division competition suffered the same faith with the GDF and Malteenoes and the GNIC and Third Class games being washed out.
GDF were in the drivers seat when the game ended, declaring on 297-9 (I. Khan 93, T. Fraser 65, D. Legay 46), then dismissing Malteenoes for 78 and having them 13-4 after enforcing the follow on. T. Castello and C. Noble took 3 and 2 wickets apiece in both innings.
However, over at Gandhi, the umpires showed some grace and due to the fast drying nature of the pitch, the officials waited to see if there would be worthy developments in the weather to allow play.
Favorable conditions manifested and play commenced at 3pm. Spinner S. Ishmael (5-52) added 3 more wickets to his overnight tally to help dismiss GYO for 173. Transport enforced the follow on looking for victory but the game ended in a draw with GYO losing I. Pooran (19) to A. Ifill and L. Goberdan (12) to S. Massiah.
B. Chanderpaul (12) and P. Persaud (12) were not out at the close of play as they ensured no further wickets were lost.
Transport claimed the first innings points in the drawn fisture. Score: Transport 294 all out; GYO173 all out & 71-2.
