Two armed bandits used the cover of the Le Repentir Cemetery to launch an attack on a couple on Sussex street on Tuesday night then used the same route to make good their escape.
Unwattie Dalli, 38, and Christopher Bokran, 34, both of 172 Curtis and Sussex Streets, Albouystown, were robbed of their personal belongings while they were making their way home.
The incident occurred minutes after the police had conducted a massive exercise a few feet away.
Dalli was relieved of a handbag containing a $50,000-digital camera, two Canadian passports, a cellular phone, a necklace valued, $10,000 and a quantity of cosmetics, while Bokran had his two gold bands worth $720,000.00, a gold chain, driver’s licence, $20,000.00 and Can$40 taken away by the two men who were armed with handguns.
According to reports, Dalli and Bokran came out of a taxi in the vicinity of Curtis and Sussex Streets and while proceeding to their residence they were approached by the suspects who were on foot.
The men held them at gunpoint and relieved them of the articles and cash before making good their escape via the cemetery. The matter was reported and an investigation is underway.
And police in the city are investigating another armed robbery, this time in the Lamaha Park area, which occurred just after Tuesday midnight.
In that robbery, customer service representative Chirelle Hart, 26 of PP 249 Lamaha Park, was robbed of her wallet containing a national Identification Card, a Scotia Bank Debit Card, and $2,600 by two men, one of whom was carrying a gun.
Kaieteur News understands that Hart was walking along Lamaha Park Entrance, when she observed the two men who were on separate bicycles riding behind her.
Sensing trouble, she turned into a nearby corner but the men followed her.
She eventually stopped at a house and the suspects rode away.
But when she decided to continue on her way home three minutes later, the two men reappeared.
they rode up to Hart and after dismounting from their bicycles, one of them pulled out a gun and held her up and demanded her valuables.
The men proceeded to snatch her shoulder bag and took out the mentioned articles and cash and made good their escape.
Hart went home and reported the matter several hours later.
