National female race walker, Donna Ramkissoon, recently ‘raised her bat’ in honour after she had completed her 50th successful race walk event on the trot with another sterling performance when the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) staged the Soesdyke race walk on Sunday June 6 last.
Leading male race walker Rudolph Mitchell was the first to cross the finish line, closely followed by Jeremy Cornelius and then Ramkissoon. The event commenced at the Prairie International Hotel, Coverden EBD and culminated at Faizul Shaw’s Wildlife Station, Public Road Soesdyke.
Later in the evening, the prolific female race walker was honoured at a special ceremony organized by the executives and members of the CSTC at the organization’s Soesdyke headquarters. Glayson Ralph was also in honours row, copping the top prize in the junior male category.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Soesdyke NDC, Aaron Grant Stewart encouraged the youths to continue participating in the race-walk events organized by the CSTC. He further congratulated the parent organization for their steadfast application in organizing frequent events for the walkers.
Consequently, the organizers have intimated that the next event, the annual Father’s Day walk would be staged this Sunday June 20 from the Patterson’s Hotel, Soesdyke EBD to the St Mary’s Primary School in the same area. As usual, trophies and other prizes would be at stake for the winners in the various categories.
