Persons interested in becoming football referees may now have the opportunity to hone their skills following the announcement that the Guyana Football Referees Council will commence its 2010 Recruitment drive with a Beginners Course in Georgetown on Saturday March 13 and Sunday 14 next.
Activities would be held at the Old Guyana National Service Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue, Thomas Lands commencing at 09:00 hrs each day.
Participants will be brought up to date on the Laws of the Game, match control, positioning, the Elements of Fitness, team work, cooperation and techniques in dealing with the media amongst other topics. The facilitators will be former FIFA referee, Roy Mc Arthur and FIFA and FA trained referee/instructor and assessor, Lawrence Griffith.
Activities continue the following week with a similar course in Linden on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March and in Bartica on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 March.
Interested persons in those respective areas who are desirous of becoming referees may contact any of the qualified referees in their respective area or contact officials at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) office on Tel # 227 8758 or Lawrence Griffith on Tel# 621 6986 or 691 3899.
