Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Guyana Power and Light Company, Winston Brassington, in an invited comment Tuesday said that the Company’s Chief Executive Officer Bharrat Dindyal, has tendered a letter indicating his intention to leave the company citing personal reasons.
According to Brassington, before any speculations should surface Dindyal is in good standing with the power company and the administration and has served the company well. His departure is regrettable.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds made the initial revelation on Monday while responding to questions from the Opposition parties as the government asked for an additional $8.2B for budget support in 2009.
Responding to a pointed question from the Alliance For Change Khemraj Ramjattan, on whether $1B in additional funds was linked to the resignation of Dindyal, Hinds explained that the monies were for fuel and other purchases for the company.
Regarding the “resignation” of the CEO, the Prime Minister noted that the executive has signaled his intentions to move on and may be gone as early as mid-year.
Dindyal assumed his post shortly after Government in the early part of the last decade, took back the power company from an overseas investor after commitments were not met and the rates went up drastically.
On Tuesday, Dindyal admitted that he is desirous of leaving and that he has made this known.
However, the CEO has not yet tendered his resignation.
