The Young Americas Business Trust Guyana (YABT) in cooperation with the Organisation of American States (OAS), the Golda Meir Mount Carmel International Training Centre of Haifa, Israel(MCTC), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel(MASHAV) through the ‘’Nex Link’’ project, is wrapping up training of young entrepreneurs in the ‘’Business Labs’’ methodology, in an effort to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among young people, at the Region Ten Business centre on Republic Avenue, Linden.
Participants were drawn from various regions in Guyana and neighbouring countries, such as Suriname and Trinidad.
YABT is an International Non-Governmental Organization with affiliate status with the Organization of American States. Its Headquarters is also located in the Secretariat of the OAS in Washington, DC, USA.
YABT promotes entrepreneurship for young people in the Americas through innovative programmes on leadership development, training, technology, and strategic alliances, and acts as a catalyst for young people to create employment opportunities for themselves and others through small businesses. YABT works with both government and private sector organisations in OAS Member States.
The course ‘Business Labs Training of Trainers and Entrepreneurs’ which was declared open by Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir, will end today in Linden, at the Linden Economic Advancement Programme (LEAP) conference centre.
Up to fifty participants have been attending the course, all with prior experience in entrepreneurship, community organisation, youth work, and development.
Some topics reviewed were management leadership, schemes of constitution of companies, strategies of management development, structure of local and regional market, among others.
The Business Labs methodology teaches practical business skills through ‘’hands-on’’ experience to encourage the creation and sustainability of new businesses. The programme was created by the YABT in cooperation with the Organisation of American States (OAS), the Golda Meir Mount Carmel international training centre of Haifa, Israel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel (MASHAV)
The current programme is a follow up to the first one which was held in January 2008 at the Ocean View in Georgetown. (Enid Joaquin)
